What is Digital Transformation

When you meet a friend after a long time, who has a new hairstyle, new dressing sense, and an overall different appearance than the last time, Or the way that person talks, approaches the subject of discussion and responds differently. Your immediate reaction would be that the person has transformed into a new personality.

Before diving into the details of Digital Transformation, what Gartner says about it.

“Digital transformation can refer to anything from IT modernization (for example, cloud computing), to digital optimization, to the invention of new digital business models. The term is widely used in public-sector organizations to refer to modest initiatives such as putting services online or legacy modernization. Thus, the term is more like “digitization” than “digital business transformation.”

Before the invention of computers in the 1980s, everything was manual and stored in physical documents. For anything and everything that happened in an organization, there was either paper documentation prepared for the activity log and outputs or storage in the form of memories. That is the beauty of that time when people are so engrossed in doing things manually and maintaining the records. The lifestyle was different. People have lots of time for the socialization that has changed to social channels now. We have come so far from that time but still in today’s time when things are moving at supersonic speed, there are few divisions like Finance, Human Resource doing their task digitally but keeping the hard copy of documents for records.

However, things have changed now and with the rise of computers in the 1980s, organizations started changing the way they operate. They started moving towards digital solutions to maintain the records. Digital records are easy to maintain, can be accessed, searched and preserved easily and involve a much lesser cost to the organization.

Imagine a room full of records books replaced by a 3.5-inch hard drive, how productive is that. Data is everything, and with the increasing competition, you need to make sure that you maintain and utilize data in the best possible environment, which is the beauty of the current time.

Why is Digital Transformation Important?

Five Athletes participate in a race, all equally skilled in running and have been getting the training with the same coach and have the same pace when running barefoot. Three out of five have normal sports shoes, but 2 use lightweight running shoes for the race. Who will win the race? Confused?

Perhaps the above example doesn’t clearly show the difference that digital transformation can bring to your organization. In a business scenario, consider two businesses offering the same product, one has a website for their brand while others do not have a web presence. Which company would you prefer to buy from?

Again the answer would be tricky because it depends upon a person to person and selection criteria of the person. The difference is for both the organizations that are very obvious of having a local presence for a company having no website and international presence for the business having a website.

So to answer in simple words, why Digital Transformation is important?

  1. It will give your business more opportunities

Start leveraging digital transformation today by implementing easy to manage and grow Digital tools.

How To Adapt To Digital Transformation?

By Going Digital. I wish the answer could be as simple as that.

However, before you plan Digital Transformation, you need to assess your current state first.

Once you have completely understood your standing, you can then plan for the best next move to start Digital Transformation for your organization. There would be two ways to attempt this transformation. Either hire a consultant who can do this for you or if your pocket allows building an in-house team.

There are various steps to adapting Digital Transformation in an organization. There are various ways you can Digitize one or more parts of your business.

Some of the examples of Digital Transformation implementation are:

Inventory Management System

Manage all your inventory-related operations through a centralized inventory management system. It helps you manage your stock at various warehouses from a central location. You can check the current status in a click, nothing more.

You can also make projections and plans for future purchases based on consumption data and other factors.

Supply Chain Management System

If you are into the manufacturing of large quantity retail products, you must implement a supply chain management system in your business process.

A Supply Chain Management System or SCMS helps you keep track of your inventory at all levels, ease your communication and billing management, and helps you drive projections for your entire network of stockists and dealers.

You can not only track sales but also help your dealers sell more through analyzing the patterns of demand and sales

eCommerce Platform

Everyone shops online nowadays and that’s a big plus for manufacturing companies. Companies often do not open their stores because of the add-on cost. Thanks to Digital Transformation Tools, you can now sell directly to customers without having to open up physical stores.

Through your own eCommerce platform like Puma, you can sell your products directly to consumers. You can also partner up with major aggregator players and sell through them.

Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP)

ERP is a business process management software that allows businesses to manage different aspects of an organization in integration with each other.

There are different components of an ERP, for example:

HRM helps you manage Human resource-related information like leaves, salaries, attendance, appraisals, requirements, etc

CRM helps you manage customer information, and your sales flow from lead through the potential to work order and retention.

Accounting helps you manage all the expenses and earnings in the organization

Project Management helps you manage the on-going projects in the organization

And many others.

Now, these are standalone systems in themselves as well as they integrate with each other as an ERP for the overall monitoring and planning for the entire organization.

For example, you make money through projects, and you spend that on salaries and expenses.

You get customers through sales, and that gets converted to a project you manage and so on.

An ERP can be your go-to tool to manage every department of your organization.

So far,

We have understood what, why, and how of Digital Transformation.
