AI-Powered Digitalization of Handwritten and Fax-Based Prescriptions

A Need for Change

Handwritten prescriptions posed significant issues for our client. Misinterpretations and medication errors became frequent when manually digitalizing the prescriptions, risking patient safety. The manual process even costs valuable time for doctors, nurses, and pharmacists. To address these challenges, the client sought a digital solution for enhanced accuracy, improved safety, and compliance with privacy regulations.

Softude’s Role

Softude digitized and streamlined their prescription management using AI. We trained an AI model on an extensive dataset of handwritten and faxed prescriptions, covering diverse writing styles. We used OCR technology to convert prescriptions into readable, digital text. Also, we employed NLP to accurately interpret the key information such as drug names. Before prescriptions are updated in the system, digitized prescriptions are reviewed and verified by a medical professional to ensure clinical accuracy. Throughout the implementation, robust security protocols were enforced to comply with the Australian Privacy Act 1988.
